vivian, me and caroline at the ivy in LA in 2007

vivian, me and caroline at les deux in hollywood in 2007

this weeks FBFF topic is “locational influences”. katy of modlychic was in NYC last weekend and noticed that she dressed differently when she lived there  as opposed to when she lived in St. Louis. and then as she watched all the people rushing by, she could identify the europeans from the americans and the true new yorkers from the tourists. i can TOTALLY relate. here are my answers:

1. what part of the world do you blog from? i am born and raised in southern ca (san diego county). i also lived in NYC and LA for a few years.

2. if you had to describe the overall mode of dress for where you live what would you say? SUPER casual. flip flops are almost uniform here.

3. do you fit in with the status quo around you or do you break the mold? i go back and forth. i would have to say that i tend to dress up more than not. living in LA and NYC for a few years changed the way i dress. let’s just say that i bought my first DVF dress while living in NYC.

4. if you have lived or traveled to another part of the country/world did your clothing choices evolve? i feel like i dressed more conservative while living in NYC and when i lived in LA, i almost ALWAYS wore dresses. in San Diego…it is MUCH more casual…sundresses, jeans and flip flops.

5. if you had to describe your style by naming a specific city, what would you be? oh gosh…this is a hard one. i really really feel i am LA, NYC and San Diego all mixed into one. now that i am a mom, i am probably more San Diego than anything else. and i’m ok with that.

don’t forget to stop by modlychic to see how everyone else answered!!!

I toally agree that the place where you live influences the way you dress. I lived in Gorgia for 5 years and dressed TOTALLY different than I do now, living in Croatia 🙂 I love your style and I can see influences of all 3 cities you mentioned 🙂 Happy Friday!

I was a total flip flop girl when I lived in LA! Flip fops and sandals were my uniform haha. I don’t think I busted them out once since I moved back to San Francisco.

loved this!! It’s so true how you start to be influenced with your surroundings. Unless you live in my small town- you just have to be confident and know you’re “in style” while everyone else just has no idea!

Yay for finding another Southern California blogger! I live in Orange County and I definitely agree with you about how super casual outfits and wearing flip flops year round is the norm. It really is funny how where we live influences our personal style. 🙂

I totally agree with your post. It’s crazy that LA, SD and OC can be so different. Even though it’s still So Cal. I just moved to OC from SD and wow it’s different. Now that I am a mom too I have to say that I am liking the super casual SD lifestyle more.
