sorry friends but FBFF is now only twice a month so instead of the same five questions, i decided to give mama kats “writing prompts” a try. she suggested writing a soundtrack to your life including only ten songs with a reason why each was included. music has always been a HUGE part of my life so trying to come up with only ten songs was impossible so i am using albums. and instead, i am going to do a three part soundtrack starting with these. anyone who knows me knows that i LOVE soundtracks. i used to always buy them…before the days of itunes. and don’t anyone dare challenge me to a game of “name that tune” in the car…i can name that tune in one note (showing my age again…as if these album covers weren’t enough).

the jets-crush on you: this was my first record. yes, record. it was a single. i loooooved this song.

prince-purple rain: you have no idea how many times i watched this movie. man, i love prince. i remember trying to convince my uncle to give me his album. i ended up getting the cassette tape later.

madonna-like a virgin: my idol as a child. i did my first airband to madonna’s “lucky star” which included me and two friends rolling around on the ground at a pizza place with our lace crop tops and rubber bracelets on.

beastie boys-license to ill: i had posters of them ALL OVER my room. “slow and low” is still one of my faves. i just had to stop and play it on i-tunes…yep, still know all the words.

run dmc-raising hell: had posters of them too. “you be illin” and “it’s tricky” were my faves. the beginning of my love for rap music.

culture club-colour by numbers: i wanted to look like boy george when i was little. no joke…when i was eight years old, i made a memory book that said i wanted to be his sister if i could be ANYONE in the world.  i am considering putting braids with ribbons in my hair now…

cyndi lauper-she’s so unusual: such a good album. i always wanted to be like her but knew i was never that stylish & unique. love her.

ll cool j-bad: oh my gawd…you have no idea how many times i played “i need love”…OVER and OVER. even requested it to play on the radio for my first boyfriend. so dorky, but reminds me of 6th grade. i remember his mom gave me a heart bracelet from avon (lol) and i broke it to pieces when we broke up. yes, i had a boyfriend in 6th grade. and this album brings me back to 6th grade every time.

There is NO WAY you’re old enough to have lived through these albums! I think that means we’re about the same age…YAY! Someone else who remembers the 80’s! I feel like we’re few and far between 😉 Love your albums. Like a Virgin was my first “big girl” tape. Purple Rain was one of my very FAVES, too. I only discovered Beastie Boys in high school, but I don’t normally admit that. Cindi Lauper? Culture Club? Yes and YES! Thanks for the memories 🙂
