i am wearing: altea tie, urban outfitters mustard cardigan, lucca couture scalloped shorts, shoes are by guess, white top and black vest are both from express.

well, i FINALLY decided on an outfit for bloggers do it better! the assignment this time was “american prep style”. i almost didn’t participate because the tie was a requirement and i have NEVER been a fan of women in ties! i am having a hard time liking the bow tie trend too. it is just SO not me…BUT i was determined to find a way to wear one that reflected my style. i decided to just wear it loose like a scarf and went with the girly scalloped shorts and heels to glam it up! and then to really “dork” it up, i wore my cheerleading pin from 1990! i felt so “glee” even though i’ve never watched a full episode…although gwyneth paltrow almost roped me in. almost.

HAHA! oh hello britney spears – nice to meet you lol
<3 I love the scalloped shorts … I too had a rough time with this assignment – but I didn't use a tie – I ended up using a fluffy cravat .. xo

hehe! I totally feel you on the tie thing. This challenge was all around not me. Anyway, you did great! The scalloped shorts were a nice touch, and I love that you just left the tie open like that! Great idea!

Sigh, I am coming over to shop with you! Every outfit you have is JUST the one that I wish I had. #Scalloped.Black.Shorts TOOOOO CUTE! I too struggled with “the tie” thing. I am chesty, and a tie just makes me look like a woman cop or bus driver (not that there is anything WRONG with those jobs)

I’d love it if you would stop by and see how a 45+ year old handles β€œPrep School”—you might find something to smile about anyway! See you there! http://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2011/05/menswear-american-prep-outfits-modeled-by-women-over-45-bloggers-do-it-better/

I just love this outfit! The Scalloped hem shorts are TO DIE FOR!!! I’m on the fence about women in ties and bow ties, but I used to use a necktie for a belt! πŸ™‚ I like that look πŸ™‚
Again, you look really wonderful! πŸ™‚

I’m loving this outfit! First of all, the way you wore the tie is great: You look like a prepster, a relaxed and casual one which in my opinion is what the preppy style is about in the first place. I also love the detailing on the shorts – it gives the outfit a more playful edge. And I just can’t get over these shoes – I adore loafer heels.
    So, great job!

Great outfit! I agree with you that the tie was almost a deal breaker for me. I wore mine as a belt/sash. Also, like many of the ladies here, I want to add how adorable those shorts are. Way to go, and thanks for posting. πŸ™‚

You nailed it! I’ve never seen a pair of shorts look so good. Leaving the tie undone was an awesome idea also. Great ‘fit!
